-3- ENGINE GEARS COMPRISING IDLER GEAR TO LOP E 77658 SOLID TYPE CAM WHEEL, FLEXIBLE COUPLING TO DYNAMO DRIVE TO LEC 2631 The timing gears have had a period throughout the test where they have been noisy. This has not developed any worse. Two periods of rattles have developed i e 13 and 25 M.P.H. These two periods got rather bad and were noticable towards the end of the test. In both cases the cause is the spring drive damping. VACUUM PUMP TO LOP E 78843 - LEC 2631 INCREASED CAPACITY. The increased capacity pump would appear to be entirely satisfactory. There has not been a case where it has caused any trouble throughout the runs. We have on many occasions run the rear tank to the last half gallon of petrol to test the efficency of the pump and at not time has it failed. We give for information only that when the pump has ceased to draw petrol, it immediately becomes noisy. We have had no failure after replenishing the rear tank and changing over from the reserve. The silencer for the pump is efficent and from the above results does not appear to cause back pressure. There seems to be slightly too much oil escaping down the exhaust pipe, which would tend to prove that the pump is being over oiled. INLET PIPE TO BOP E 77653 NEW INDUCTION PIPE. FISHTAIL TO V 546/7 There has been no trouble with the pipe. We have not been able to distinguish any improved slow running with the new fishtail, distribution would appear to be good from the test taken for building up. These test have been free from mis-fires. CARBURETTOR TO LOP E 78397 LEC 2652. Carburation was during the first portion of the test good and did not become weak through the variation of the water temperature as on previous test due to the installation of the thermostat short circuiting the radiator. The thermostat however failed to function towards the finish of the test and remained in an open position thus frustrating it's usefullness. The air valve has on several occasions become sluggish due to dust scoring the piston. WATER PUMP TO LOP E 77661 LEC 2624 NITRO ALLOY STEEL ROTOR SHAFT. We dismantled the water pump at 10,000 miles. The shaft was in good condition, very little wear had taken place, there was an absence of grooving. When dismantled the shaft was well lubricated. We have not noticed any water leak from the gland. EXHAUST FITTINGS M.S. 2824 COMPRISING PRINCE OF WALES FEATHER TYPE CAST MANIFOLD TO E 78779 REAR SILENCER ASSEMBLY TO E 78951. SLIDING JOINT AT JUNCTION BOX TO N.S. 7804-5-6-7-8. FRONT EXPANSION CHAMBER AND DOWNTAKE PIPE LAGGED. SLIDING JOINT AT JUNCTION OF REAR SILENCER We are very pleased to say that the exhaust system has not developed any serious trouble. The sliding joint at the junction of the rear silencer is the only part that requires attention. | ||
