The joint requires strengthening. It has opened out and allows the exhaust to escape which has made the exhaust noisy. The exhaust pipe appeared at first as if it was going to give trouble. It came out of the joint approximately .625" but it has remained at this and no further distortion has taken place. We have not disturbed any lagging as no faults have appeared. The exhaust note generally in our opinion is passable. There no excessive boom on the overrun.

EXHAUST CUT OUT TO LOP 79871

We have had considerable trouble with the cut out chattering and being noisy. The trouble was due to the screwed portion of the control rod bending, thus shortening the rod and releasing the load holding the valve closed. This screwed portion is .250" in diametre. If this diametre was increased we belive that the trouble would disappear.

RADIATOR TO LOP E77675 NS{Norman Scott} 2683-A727 Sch 1084 USING SUSPENSION STUDS E 78617 SPRING E 78568

The radiator and suspension have not given any trouble and do not show any weakness. We have lost very little water throughout the trip. Allthough on one or two occasions with the shutters wide open a temperature of 95° was reached, this was in our opinion due to the hot climatic temperature and a light following wind.

RADIATOR SHUTTERS AND CONTROLS LOP E 77676 NS{Norman Scott} 2683

The radiator shutters became jammed after 1500 miles due to dust and dirt getting in the bearings. We have not had this happen before. There has been no further trouble after it had been throughly cleaned.

BONNET TO LOP E 78559 PUSH TYPE CATCHES TO NS{Norman Scott} 2464

We like the push type catches they have functioned well and given no trouble. The bonnet has been firmly held in position. There has been slight end chattering. Bonnet is in good condition.

OIL PUMP LOP E 77662 OIL HOLES IN GEARS AND SHAFT TO V 486 OIL FILTER TO LOP E 77668 SUMP CASING, INLET PORT REVERSED AS SHOWN ON LEC 2643 BAFFLE FITTED TO CENTRE WEB IN LOWER HALF AND FOUR .375" DIAMETRE HOLES SPACED AT BOTTOM TO EX 3849.

We have had no failure of oil pressure after braking from high or low speed. A variation of approximatly 10 lbs takes place but quickly builds up to maximum pressure. We found after experimenting with a lower oil pressure that the pump became very noisy when showing an oil pressure at slow speeds of 15 lbs, at a pressure of 15 lbs the noise is slight. Condition of gears and drive were OK when examined.
