To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. X2894 EFC3/T5.6.26. RE TUNGSTEN POINTS. We have never been able to obtain the same good results with the tungsten points which have been obtained for us in this country that we can obtain with tungsten points as already fitted to the various American ignitions - Remy, Delco, and Liberty, and I do not yet believe that we get the same material. For instance, herewith is a sample pair of tungsten points from the Remy distributor which you recently obtained for us, which has run on a 10,000 mile bench test with otherwise our own ignition, i.e. our own coil, condenser and everything else of our own which could possibly make any difference, except the points themselves, and you will see that we get a distinctly good result. We have not a good representative sample of British tungsten points which have done precisely the same to give us a comparative sample, but we know very definitely from our observations and experience that we cannot as yet get the same results with the tungsten points we have obtained for test. There is also herewith for example a set of tungsten contact points which have run 7,500 miles on a car in France, the only difference in this case being that there may have been some oil vapour present which could not be the case on our bench tests described above, and you | ||
