To : Gry{Shadwell Grylls} c : JPB Kgt. 1. PJW. 6.1.66. S.3 Wing Rippling. Memo: SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}/JA 31.12.65. My comments are very much in line with those in JPB 1/NH of 5.1.66. One point which is perhaps worth mentioning is that when fitting the SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister} styling strip to the wing, we will have to take particular care to prevent corrosion at the fixing points. Holes are obviously required through the wing panel, and their raw edges will be vulnerable to attack from salt water thrown up inside the wing. The fixings, be they studs or clips, will tend to catch mud and salt. We also found on Burma and SY, before underwing mudshields were fitted, that it was essential to seal the fixings, in order to prevent unsightly mud streaks on the outside of the wing. If the SY wing moulding is used, so also can the SY plastic clips and plastic plugs for the wing holes. This plug should provide a reasonable seal, but I would recommend daubing it on the inside of the wing with something like underseal, and it would be advisable to paint the raw edge of the hole in the wing with zinc rich primer before fitting the plugs. Attention to these kinds of detail makes it even more unlikely that the cost of the modification can be kept down to £10 per car. Kgt. | ||
