| 306. c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}10/G.4.11.38. A.F.M G.CD.981 DOUBLE ACTING DAMPER ON FRONT BRAKES. Ph.111. The present front brakes Intermediate Lever and Air Damper are replaced by an Armstrong Double Acting Shock Damper carrying a new intermediate lever. This damper is mounted, using two channel section pieces attached to the frame. The frame is unaltered except for bolt holes. The existing rope to front equaliser, and rod (with jumped up ends) from servo, are both replaced by plain rods, fitted where possible with standard jaws (as B.111). Brake Leverages are unchanged, but the line of the rods is slightly altered, thus the rod from servo to intermediate lever will bear more heavily on the felt bush in the cruciform cover plate. The forward rod clears the spring pan better than at present, but requires a gash in the engine undersheet. The new damper, being double acting, should tend to prevent front brake thump. For the moment, we wish the scheme merely filed for reference, in view of the objection to any experimental work on Phantom 111. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
