DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5600 BY/Cgh{W Clough}2/G.4.7.28. 20 HP. REAR WHEEL CARRIER FOR WHEELS WITH 33" x 6" L.P. TYRES. ---------------------------------------------------- With reference to the difficulty with the spare wheel fitted with 33" x 6" low pressure tyre when carried at the rear, we send you herewith print LF.1404 showing proposed modifications to the carrier bracket, luggage grid and petrol tank, to enable the spare wheel to be dropped as low as possible in order to clear the hoods of open touring cars and Cabriolets. In order to clear the spokes of the wheel, we have had to move the right angle cross member of the luggage grid further forward, and the guard rail has been carried forward accordingly. We have increased the length of the folding over portion of the grid and the cross rail bowed in the centre to clear the spokes. The lower cross member of the vertical guard rail is shown as a right angle piece instead of tubular, and is also bowed in the centre to clear the rail of the folding over portion of the grid. The guard rail has been moved further forward a distance of .850", and the grid has been lengthened .750". The latter dimension does not of course include the amount of bow in the rail of the grid which is .400". Will you please let us have your criticisms of the above as soon as possible, so that arrangements can be made for low pressure tyres to be fitted on 20 HP. cars instead of the present medium pressure tyres in the near future.
