re 20 HP. SIDE SPARE WHEEL CARRIERS.

We have always experienced a fair amount of trouble with breakage of the tube of the above, in many cases when cars have only been out about a year.

There is no doubt that this is largely because Owners do not trouble to adjust the height of the head which carries the wheel, so that the tyre will rest on the running board; but in view of the fact that this operation necessitates getting out a spanner, and also probably a mallet, to move the head up and down on the tube owing to the fact that it is keyed on, and usually tight and rusty, we would suggest that a scheme with a slotted plate, such as is used on the Phantom, would be better, because if this were done the tyre would be bound to rest on the running board at the time of tightening up the centre bolt.
