To Hr. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} x93 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG11.9.26. x93 x8230 EXPLOSIONS IN SILENCER. Replying to HrS/PD10.9.26. Investigations are being carried out in connection with this fault, but at the moment we have no means of eliminating it. We feel however in cases where the complaint is very acute, it is due to some definite fault which can be overcome. We consider it would be very useful if the Barkers Trials car which Mr. Nutt mentions has this complaint, was demonstrated to the Experimental Dept. We could arrange to send a man to London for this test. If we did this it would enable us to make certain that the car is as good as we know how to make it with our present knowledge. We hold the view, that when the Phantom is as good as we know, it is very little worse than the Silver Ghost. Explosions in the silencer was a frequent source of complaint on the Silver Ghost.
