SPARE WHEEL CARRIER.

We have carried out tests with the spare wheel carrier and the luggage grid on the bumper.

The arrangement which gives maximum rigidity is N.sch.2402, the bottom tube to N.sch.2419, the thickness of the carrier plate being .156" (F.77389).

If we use N.sch.2419 alone, the clips on the bottom tube fail after a few hours running.

Although under our exceptional conditions of test the spare wheel carrier still vibrates appreciably, with the combination it does not turn round or move about as with the other schemes.

One modification is required if this arrgt. is adopted. The tube to which the top of the carrier plate is attached is too close to that of the luggage grid, being thereby liable to create a rattle.

We have had no failure of the luggage grid which we have been running with a load of 200 lbs.
