1202 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/R.3.10.38. ALUMINIUM SAND CASTINGS. We carried out a number of tests on running Bentley castings in L.5 alloy. These have been uniformly successful and completed a 15,000 miles' test. We have never experienced any failures. When the test was completed it was decided not to fit L.5 alloy for fear of getting it mixed with the R.R. alloy in the Factory. Since it would appear from RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}1/MC.30.9.38. that the car castings are now being bought outside, we cannot see any justification for having them produced in anything but L.5.
