ALUMINIUM SAND CASTINGS
---------------------

In reply to your RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}1/MC.30.9.38, we can, as requested, determine separate costs for Aero and Chassis Aluminium sand castings, but before we can do so the following modifications to our present methods must be put into operation:-

(1) Material specification numbers for Aero and Chassis castings must be identifiable. We suggest suffix letters after the specification numbers viz., A.{Mr Adams} to denote Aero and C. to denote Chassis.

(2) The present method of dealing with the returns of metal used in the Aluminium Foundry must be elaborated as follows:-
All ingot metals and scrap to be requisitioned as required for charging furnaces. The requisition to state in addition to the usual particulars the specification of the casting to be made therefrom. It is of prime importance that the correct specification of the casting to be produced is entered on the requisition. This means that Storekeepers should be responsible for the weight and other particulars shown on the requisition and that all scrap reclaimed such as runners, risers etc. must pass through Stores or Storekeepers stationed in the Aluminium Foundry. This, we suggest, will cause an increase of at least two Storekeepers.

(3) For accounting purposes it will be necessary to have separate material classes for aero and chassis aluminium castings. This part of the scheme can be looked after by the accountant's section.

We suggest, if Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} agrees to differentiate between the costs of aero and chassis castings, that the system can be put into operation as and from January 1st next.

G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}
