While we were in America we noticed a scheme for getting oil in the centre of gearbox shafts by means of screw threads. This struck us as being a useful expedient, and we carried out tests to see what proportions of thread and clearance had to be used to get the best results. The attached report shows the data we have so far obtained. We can quickly test any screw thread of this nature which is designed to go in a gearbox.
