contd :- -4- and at the same time we are asking you to confirm our results. We have moved the fan from its standard position to within ¼" of the matrix. You can easily do this by putting a distance piece in the fan spindle. When you have finished your tests on the front axle we should like you to keep the standard Phantom axle on the car if you find it is a big improvement as we anticipate you will, and to slack off the bolts holding the engine mounting until they are only just gripping and no more. We should like you to do this on the front and on the rear, noting in each case the increase in smoothness which results from the change and the effect on the steering. For this research work we suggest that you keep your two best men with you and send the rest back to England. With the co-operation of Ps. we consider that you should be able to get the big job; done at Sevres. There are a number of parts in the garage at Chateauroux for the side steering; tube to M.Sch.2301. We have also sent you a lot of information about this tube. Whenever you have time, we should like you to make sure that you are getting the best out of this side steering tube by trying the various springs, which you have in the garage, with different set-ups.
