'SS{S. Smith}' FRONT AXLE. 47420 47425

With reference to your telegram re.
SS.{S. Smith} front axle received yesterday, we see that we had made a mistake in agreeing to the operating lever being moved outwards towards the pivot, and it will be necessary to return to the original position on N. scheme 2718.

We send herewith N. scheme 2771.
shewing the slight modifications that we suggest should be done to bring this in without weakening the axle forging.

Since writing the above we have received BY3/G51228. and have had a conversation on the telephone with CGH.{W Clough} We see that the cross steering lever touches the brake operating lever, and can deal with that, but we do not see how it can possibly touch the bottom of the pull rod, and we think that if it does do so, what is called the outer brake operating lever must be considerably out of position. The positions of this lever are fundamental to the design of all these axles, even the original G.2. four wheel brake axle requiring the position of this lever to be limited. If this is done we think that there will be no question of the pull rod fouling the cross steering lever.
