X128 File Peregrine Gearbox in Bentley Chassis. With reference to the attached. Tests we have carried out show that the backing off of the dogs on the second speed on the present Standard gearbox will not in any way replace the necessity for a synchro-mesh second speed. The improvement in backing off the dogs is one that can be appreciated by an expert driver. It in no way compares for ease of operation and being foolproof to the synchro-mesh second speed. We have therefore got to look forward to the fact that when we introduce the synchro-mesh second on the Phantom customers will anticipate the same improvement going forward on the 25 HP. At present this is not allowed for in our programme. As regards the tests where we are running the Peregrine box on the Bentley we should not expect to start up a new gearbox for the Bentley unless this also had synchro-mesh second speed. The information we shall gain by running this gearbox is that we shall be able to find out how much we can reduce the size and weight of a new gearbox. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
