Re. STARTER MOTOR ON 28-EX.

The distance moved by the armature before the main switch contacts close should be .475 inches. Your measurements therefore are correct for this.

The clearance between the edge of the pinion teeth and the flywheel teeth should be .175-.15. It would appear therefore that the motor on 28-EX, judging from your measurements, projects .035" too far into the crankcase.

If the above figures are closely adhered to the motor should function correctly.

We had trouble about a year ago on production with 40/50 motors and after investigating the complaints with W.Trayner we proved that motors were at that time being incorrectly set and by setting the motor correct to drawing limits no failure could be induced.

Shall be interested to hear further how you get on with the motor.
