C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} P. 2. CLUTCH.

With reference to the trouble experienced with the P. 2. clutch on 19-EX, we send herewith N. sch. 3551, shewing suggestions for converting the clutch into the type with the friction fabrics on the driven member.

We should like to have Derby's comments - if any - on this scheme, as the intention is to make the alterations as little as possible - that is to say - we are intending to use the existing flywheel and flywheel cover forgings.

The whole of the operating mechanism is unaltered, and so is the flexible drive in the centre of the clutch.

It would have been possible to make the flywheel in one piece, and to arrange an aluminium cover as on the recent Peregrine clutch, but we believe we are asking for the least alteration by retaining the construction of the clutch as at present.

It will be noticed that we have increased the friction surfaces so as to reduce the pressure per sq. in.

A design for an improved flexible drive at the back will be sent in the course of a few days.
