X457. H10. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.6/MA.6.7.32. JELLYING P.2. V7380. A bare chassis does not jelly. We think jellying is caused from the rigidity of the body. We should like a sub frame which is immensely ridged torsionally between the 4 sub-frame brackets. We suggest stiffeners in the form of a cross, the arms of which fasten to the sub-frame above the sub-frame brackets. We are hoping that such a sub-frame will cause a bare chassis to jelly. This would account for the large variation in the degree of jellying on a complete car, and would enable us to do some tests on subframe mounting in order to overcome jellying.
