To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/LG11.8.27. 40/50 HP. BONNET. Handwritten: X8260, X55 With reference to BJ15/E22.7.27. We wonder whether, when BJ. wrote this, he was aware of the recent reduction in cost of the louvred bonnet. In BJ5/D20.6.27. he suggested that louvres should be retained for tropical climates and one set of shutters only for all other cars. This is what we have considered to be desirable. It is mainly a matter of policy because experimentally we cannot claim any big advantage for louvres over bonnet shutters when used intelligently. However in tropical climates the customer is liable to be uncomfortable for 90% of his time if the bonnet shutters are not used intelligently and from our experience this is invariably the case.
