Expl. Dept. Ha/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/MJ. November 9th.1931. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley, Esq., Cadillac Motor Car Co., Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Dear Oy., It is more than probable that I shall be coming to the States in about the second week in January next year. Naturally I should very much like to have a look round General Motors Proving Ground, if this is possible, and generally discuss our mutual problems. Could you let me know whether you will be in Detroit at the time? The other Company in which I am particularly interested is Chrysler, but I have no idea of the feeling between General Motors and the Chrysler Corp. Should, however, you know anybody connected with the Chrysler Co. who could talk about what they are doing, I should be very much indebted to you. We are charmed with our first experimental efforts at synchro-mesh. One thing we are particularly interested in is how the Americans' get silent gearboxes as a matter of course with teeth which do not seem to have any particular merit as regards finish. Can you definitely say that a cast iron box is quieter than an aluminium box with the same standard of gear workmanship? However, this is probably one of the things I can discuss when I come over. Kind regards, Yours sincerely, | ||
