FABROIL TIMING GEARS.

We attach hereto a blue print showing the development of backlash in a set of Bentley Timing gears having the idler and water pump driving gears in Fabroil.

Due to wearing of teeth on the Fabroil gears the backlash has increased from .002 when assembled originally to a maximum of .014 between the idler gear and camwheel and a maximum of .009 to .012 in the case of the other gears.

These gears were fitted in September 1934, on B7 unit which has run approximately 29,000 miles in Lp{Mr Lappin}'s car so that the figures quoted on the attached chart are interesting in view of the intention to fit similar gears on certain production chassis.
