PHANTOM STEERING. X8430 [struck through]
[Handwritten]: 47+30 X8430 [struck through]

In connection with the experiments for the general improvement of the steering, we send herewith N. scheme 2414. shewing the larger and more irreversible worm as recently instructed by R.{Sir Henry Royce}

It will be seen that a large number of new pieces are required, and the mounting of the box has been modified until it is like that existing on the 20HP.

The points raised by yourselves in connection with the side steering tube and front axle, and in connection with the stops inside the steering box, are automatically dealt with by this drawing.

It will be noticed that we shew a larger stationary column tube. This is in anticipation of the fitting of a self-centring spring, the design for which we expect to send you in a day or two, but this large tube is not an essential part of this particular experiment.

It will be noticed that the steering centre has been shifted .050 further in. We have found this unavoidable, but think that it can be dealt with without difficulty on an existing experimental car.
