Will you please remove the gear box when you have received the bakelite ring despatched today and carry out two modifications.

1. Drill holes in the clutch withdrawal trunnion spigot as shown on EX.1395 enclosed. The purpose of this is to release the depression which has been found to exist in the annular space between the spigot and the 1st. motion shaft. It is hoped that the oil leak from the gearbox into the clutch housing will be reduced. Will you therefore take further measurements of oil loss after the modification exactly as you have already done, so that we can compare the results.

2. Fit bakelite ring to servo as per sketch enclosed and instructions in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} memo. To dismantle the servo it is necessary to remove a nut on the inner end of the shaft inside the gearbox, taking care not to let any parts fall out of place when withdrawing. It can be followed through with a tommy bar.

The servo should be thoroughly cleaned out and the disc dried and lightly sandpapered against a surface plate if it is oily.

re Joggles on corners.

Will you please carry out the following test. Find a stretch of road with corners on which joggles occur. Get used to their intensity on this stretch, then remove the front rebound buffers and see if there is any difference. Repeat several times as we want to be quite certain of the results. Do not run without the buffers except during this test.

Will you please consult the tyre book and give us the mileage and history of India Specials Nos. 287/287 RJ and 284163 RJ.
