X.7340 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DAL/M10.3.28. I 'SS{S. Smith}' PROPELLER SHAFT. Herewith we send N.sch. 2563 shewing the anti-pumping holes which R.{Sir Henry Royce} asks for in R8/M5.3.28., for the sliding joint on the prop. shaft. We also indicate a plug omitted on N.sch. 2547. We understand R.{Sir Henry Royce} to prefer the arrangement shewn on the bottom view on N.sch. 2547 but as we expect Derby will prefer the plain tube shewn on the upper view to the slightly swaged tube shewn on the lower view, we understand that they may use it if they like, combining it with the long taper pins going right across. With Derby also choose the method of stopping the heads of the flange bolts which they prefer from a manufacturing point of view. This enables you to go ahead with N.sch. 2547.
