To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X 340 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.7/KW.9.6.36. Phantom III Radiator Steam Valve. In spite of the various schemes which have been tried, the present production radiator steam valve is far from satisfactory. We are endeavouring to find an arrangement by which we can dispense with the valve altogether; although we have not yet succeeded, the nozzles which were recently fitted to 33-EX were a good step towards this. Until we can dispense with this valve we wish to make it more effective and if possible cheaper. We send you herewith scheme Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}145, which includes two ideas - (1) a modification to the internal portion of the top tank - this consists of a pipe running along the top of the tank, which will act as a baffle and take steam off at the rear top of the tank: (2) a spring loaded plate valve instead of a diaphragm. We should like you to have this scheme detailed, made and fitted to the radiator off 33-EX which W. Smith at present has dismantled. The first part of the scheme can be done without any new parts, and the radiator can then be built up, the new valve being fitted when this is ready. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std. | ||
