Copy. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Re 20-HP Chassis. Long Frames. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}17/E15.7.29. You will remember our discussion about the above at the last conference at Derby when I reminded those concerned that for some months now I have been pointing out that there is nothing on record in the way of a satisfactory official test to show that the 'jellying' trouble has been overcome, and that as long ago as the 16th May it was pointed out that, although we had made two identical chassis, whilst one of them was free from the original trouble complained of, the other was not, and that this did not prove that, if we went into production, the trouble would not still be there. You agreed these views and that the long frame should be standardised in the proper official way. R.{Sir Henry Royce} is pressing for the introduction of the longer frame. I believe that a decision in regard to frames for the second half of 'P' Series will shortly be urgently required, and I am, therefore, sending this note along to you in the hopes that you can have something done to bring the above matter to a conclusion. I appreciate that owing to pressure of work in the experimental department in connection with 'SS{S. Smith}' and other troubles, this question of the long frame has probably had to be put on one side, but at the same time I do not wish R.{Sir Henry Royce} to think that it is we in London who are at fault if more short frames have to be ordered. 153 Sg.{Arthur F.
