Messrs The Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd.
For the att. of Colonel Matthew,

Dear Sirs,

DUNLOP WHEELS WITH S.S. TYRES.

You will remember during the early test of the straight sided wheel when we were considering the standardization of same, we drew attention to the fact that a number of the detachable flanges completely left the wheels when the tyres were deflated whilst the car was running at high speeds.

The remedy which was adopted at the time and which was thought to be a good one, was to permit the detachable flange to over-lap on its ends when not fitted to the wheel, by approximately 1.375".

Our Experimental Department now inform us that in the last set of trials which we are running in France in connection with our experimental work, detachable flanges which were correct to these instructions have, when the tyres have been deflated under running conditions, left the wheels in accordance with our previous experience.

Our Experimental Dept. are most anxious that we should bring this matter before you for consideration, and they make the suggestion that it appears to be definitely necessary to have a simple form of locking device on the detachable flange which will prevent it opening out, similar to what has been
