-2- Contd. On inspection of the inside, black marks were found at the top of the aluminium foil strip, which connects the earthed side of the condenser to the case, and a hole further down with blackened edges, as though sparking had taken place. The walls of the case were covered with a grey chalky deposit, while lying on the bottom and in the lid {A. J. Lidsey} of the case were some particles of what looked like saw-dust. From the above, it appears that it is possible to have a connection which is faulty for ignition purposes but which cannot be revealed by our condenser tests at present. It is therefore suggested that we add a short running test to the series of condenser production tests. It would also be better if some form of positive connection could be devised. Although the deposit inside the case may have been the result of sparking, it should be seen that the cases are quite clean before fitting the condenser. C.A.P. | ||
