than on the excessive number of battery failures. The reason for calling the conference originally was that we were having to deal with a certain number of failures resulting from the two causes referred to above, and in order that there should be no overlapping or wrong sense of divided responsibility, the conference was called so that we could come to a reasonable arrangement between the two Companies as to

(a). The quickest method of dealing with failures.

(b). The best method of clearing them on batteries that existed.

(c). The best way of dealing with batteries in the future from the point of view of getting the best out of them.

3. With reference to the number of battery failures, I am certainly surprised to find that Paris put up a case of having 150 instances of failure, and they may rest assured that the matter will have full consideration, but one certainly does not understand that whilst placing the failures from over-discharging to three items, two of which represent excessive demand on a battery, that they state that with a battery of similar capacity and dimensions made by a french firm they have not had a single instance of failure, and that the batteries produced by this firm and used by Paris are 30 in number. Are Paris satisfied that where the new batteries have been fitted that the owners have not been in direct communication with the French battery makers, since they have not apparently eliminated the causes of the trouble.

(a), Too many electrical gadgets.

(b). Too powerful head lamps.

One would have expected since the dynamo remains the same, that a similar trouble would have resulted.
