R.R. 493 (40 H) (SL 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} ORIGINAL EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. COPIES TO: RCJ BJ WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} GY RG{Mr Rowledge} Expl. No. 8980 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG15.12.25 OBJECT OF TEST: Oiling tests on Phantom. TESTER: A.C. Lovesey. CONDITIONS: Test bench and road tests. SUMMARY OF TEST: Until we can run without the 'L' section rings, we cannot consider the oiling on the Phantom satisfactory. These tests show that one cause of increased oiling troubles and increase in oil consumption is the increased flow from the bearings on the Phantom compared with the Silver Ghost. 8-EX car in France, which has just completed 10,000 miles, had only 3 feeds to the bearings. The condition of the bearings at the finish of the test was better than any previous Phantom test. It is the first 10,000 miles we have completed in France on Phantom without trouble with con. rod bearings. We shall shortly have results of comparative tests taken in France with plain rings.
