Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}36/KW.13.12.35. Tests on Oil Scoop to N.Sch.4668. Ph.III Gearbox. The above scheme for supplying oil to the inside of the 3rd motion shaft has been tested in its original form as shown on N.Sch.4668, and modified in two ways in accordance with Design Dept. suggestions. The three arrangements are shown on the attached Rn.{Mr Robinson}33 for reference, and the tables show the quantity of oil delivered. The figures are not sufficiently consistent to be shown in the form of curves, so the following brief analysis is given. (1) Scoop to N.Sch.4668 (As Rn.{Mr Robinson}33 fig. 1) Delivery 4000 r.p.m. 100°C. = 160 c.c/hour. " 3000 " 90°C. = 100 c.c/hour. " 2000 " 90°C. = 16 c.c/hour. (2) As Rn.{Mr Robinson}33, fig.2. Delivery 4000 r.p.m. 100°C. = 580 c.c/hour " 3000 " 90°C. = 230 c.c/hour. " 2000 " 90°C. = 110 c.c/hour. (3) As Rn.{Mr Robinson}33, fig.3. Delivery 4000 r.p.m. 100°C. = 340 c.c/hour. " 3000 " 80°C. = 148 c.c/hour. " 2000 " 60°C. = 275 c.c/hour. In all cases there was no delivery below 1500 r.p.m. All tests were carried out in top gear. | ||
