- 5 - at high speeds on a good road, and suddenly hitting a pot-hole, the steering would be snatched out of the hands if one was not wary. Also at times with reduced speed, on a rough road, the shocks are violent. There is not the regular oscillation of the steering wheel that has been previously experienced. At no times during our runs have there been any wobbles at either slow or high speeds. Maximum speed reached 80 m.p.h. Our front wheels have been balanced as near as possible, and tyre pressures have been 55 lbs, at start, and later 50 lbs. Gearbox & Act. Gear, to L.O.P. G.73582. Bolts holding suspension have remained tight. There has been a slight oil leak from rear of bearing. Gears are good. At no time has there been any tendency for any gears to come out of mesh. Servo & servo link motion. The servo has jaggered when brakes have been applied quickly. We have examined the servo. The bedding of plates is very good. There is a slight amount of back-lash in the train wheels. We found that the cams were cross binding on the shaft, which is inclined to make the pressure applied uneven. There were also score marks on the cam shaft. We have eased the cross binding, and polished the shaft. On resuming running, no jaggers have occurred. The servo link motion is in good condition, and has worked satisfactorily. Change gear & brake mechanism. Modified change speed mechanism & side levers to L.E.C. 2079, H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Sch. 1970, 1903, 2001, & Arrgt. Drwg. G.73774. These are in good condition, & the changing of gears is easy to manipulate. Gearbox undershield? with felt strip attached, to L.E.C.2091. The undershield is an improvement. It is in good condition, and is sufficient protection to the gearbox. Starter Motor. We have had no trouble with the starter motor whatsoever. Examination of brush gear at 2,000 miles found it to be in a clean condition. Flywheel & Clutch. Lightened flywheel & clutch to L.E.C. 2067. Simplified clutch stop to L.E.C. 2080, & L.O.P. G.73748. The clutch has been smooth in action, & no slipping has occurred. The clutch stops in a normal time when hot. Standard engine fabric coupling, to Arrgt. Drwg. 72570. The coupling is in good condition. Sphere & Universal coupling. From an outside examination, the sphere appears to be in a good condition. The coupling is free from knocks. | ||
