CONNECTING RODS - ALL CHASSIS.
-------------------------

We have been investigating complaints from Kingsbury on Connecting Rods which have been re-conditioned at the Works (Repair Department) and find that the bedding of the shells to the rod and cap is very unsatisfactory. On looking into the necessity for this bedding we find that a certain amount of distortion takes place in the bore of the rod amounting to .005, as per our RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy.1/LS.21.8.37.

Our improvements in machining and fitting are proceeding, but are not yet completed. We are also incorporating the recommendations made in HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers} 10.8.37. to allow nip on the joint faces of the shells.

To have this work under control RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} has decided that all Repair Rods shall be re-conditioned in the Works by Mr.Mosedale.

We shall then be able to measure the distortion, determine the life of the rod, make the necessary allowances for nip, and do the necessary re-spot facing of bosses etc,.

All Repair Rods will be inspected before return to depots.

Will you please therefore arrange to send all Repair Connecting Rods to Mr.Mosedale for re-conditioning.
