Exhaust silencers.

The lagging on the front silencer has burst right open between clips. We do not consider that the thin aluminium is suitable for this job, as it is torn open by stones, etc. Rear silencer is in the same condition as previously reported. Better provision should be made to rear sliding joint between silencers to keep dirt off it, as this joint expands and contracts 1/2". This, if not working satisfactorily, will tend to break silencer brackets. All silencer brackets O.K.

Engine fabric coupling.

This coupling, after 6,788 miles, shews a slight bulge in one place only. Otherwise the fabric is quite O.K. There is no sign of the rivets giving way.

Pedals to Sch. L.O.P. F.{Mr Friese} 72359.

Bearings are in good condition.

Rear Axle.

This is as previously reported. We have had no trouble with this whatsoever.

Clutch.

This is working quite satisfactorily. On two occasions it has been reported by drivers to have slipped, but I have not been able to reproduce this. From outside examination and testing it appears to be quite O.K. Pick up is smooth and even. It is rather sluggish in stopping when hot. Setting of clutch stop does not alter it. It is quite O.K. when cold.

Steering box suspension.

The suspension of the steering box is still good. We do not consider that changing from thin oil to thick oil has improved the steering. Steering at low speeds has considerably improved since the car left England. Since changing tyres and front springs, we have lost our high speed wobbles. In fact the steering is very steady. We still get shocks due to rough roads on steering wheel at high speeds.

Radiator and Shutters.

Radiator is O.K. The suspension of radiator - see my previous report on this. Radiator shutters are working satisfactorily, but there is a fair amount of end play developed in actuating rod from dash to radiator.

Exhaust Snout.

This is quite satisfactory.
