BENTLEY III

4. Programme

Specifications have been issued to the Works to enable tools and cost to be considered. This item should be carried forward to the next meeting.

5. Material

Generally the material will be released for the production of B.III by March 1939, but in the case of the frame this will have to be cleared by the end of November 1938.

6. Bodies

The third experimental chassis is ready for the body. Some delay was occasioned in this matter, which was attributed to the triangular control of these bodies. BY asked for it to be agreed that W. should control experimental bodies, and this was agreed to. On the question of weight, it was agreed that there should be closer co-operation between the Works and Park Ward, and BY will go to Park Ward's for this purpose and have a full discussion on ways and means of saving weight in coachwork. At the same time Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} stressed the point of chassis weights and showed that we had not apparently made much, if any, progress in that direction. BY will also discuss Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s proposal regarding mock-ups of types of bodies which can be altered when final designs are being considered and approved. It is considered so much easier to judge from such mock-ups than in any other way.

7. Front End

The point was discussed as to whether the front and front appearance generally could be made different and more sporty. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and BY considered that it was acceptable in its present form.
