(5) For the top gear S.M. cones we shall first try holes in the same way as for the 3rd speed cones and if this does not work by itself, then it will be necessary to fit an oil thrower on the 2nd motion shaft below in such a position as to throw oil on to the front face of the top gear outer cone. This oil should then get through the holes to the inside of the cone.

We have noticed that, as you say, the 2nd speed cone throws the oil to the top of the box and causes the level to fall elsewhere. To overcome this we shall try fitting a guard on the near side of this cone to scrape the oil off and limit the amount that is thrown up. Fig. 2 attached shows what we mean.

We should be glad to know whether, if you have to dismantle your box again, you think it would be worth while trying any of the above modifications.
