COPY. CROSS HOUSE, DIALSTONE HOUSE, STOCKPORT. 30th. August 1926. Tel: 2728. Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, . 20-HP. Chassis GCK-70. Herewith I again send to you one pair of platinum points, will you please true up the one and replace the other. These points have run exactly 1500 miles so you will see how quickly they wear. Moreover, they require truing up every other day to keep the engine in proper condition. There is quite obviously something wrong with the ignition, the points on my last 20-HP. chassis lasting 10,000 miles without attention. In the present case the platinum on the nut seems to melt (always on the nut) and transfer a portion of itself on to the other point, this leaves a hole in the nut point and a large "blob" on the other, resulting in the gap being wrong and neither a clean break or close. I brought the car down for you to put this right a few weeks since, but there has been no improvement. It is a serious matter for me to be without a car (I use it for business every day) and difficult for me to get to Derby - can you suggest any quick method of putting this right, for obviously I cannot go on using up platinum points, to say nothing of the trouble of putting them right twice a week. If you could do the job in a day I could possibly manage to come to Derby one day next week or Thursday this week. Your early attention will much oblige. Thanking you for past help, Yours faithfully, (Sgd) H.N.Ashton. | ||
