-2- BY/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}6/MG.2.5.39 (cont'd) (b) High speed conditions, where there is probably no complaint of run down batteries, but where the dynamo will not stand up to continuous maximum output. Under these conditions we shall still use the new dynamo, but the regulator will have to be adjusted to give a much less output, since the very fact that the car is driven continuously at high speed will cater for the demands on the battery, provided that the total electrical load at night is not materially in excess of the maximum amount permitted by the regulator. In any case it is better to have run the risk of undercharging than a burnt out dynamo, because the former can always be compensated for by recourse to external charging. We understand that Mr. Becker has now been sent another dynamo of the same type, with a black regulator, which, of course, was quite in accordance with previous instructions; but we rather fear that the same trouble will sooner or later occur again, and it is desirable that the black regulator should be replaced with another one which we are carefully choosing to see that the output is not in excess of that which can be sustained continuously by the dynamo. We do not know whether Mr. Becker is still in Germany, or whether he is on the way home. If we know where he is, we ought to send this new regulator out to him, as it will be an insurance against further trouble on the way home. When the car returns to this country, we think it most advisable either for it to be sent up to Derby, or for one of our Electrical experts to go down to "N" to see that there is no other fault on the electrical system which has escaped inspection.
