X3910 S/W. (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}12/I/9-2-33. ANTI-DRUMMING COMPOUND. In Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/KT19-1-33 you referred to the process developed by Messrs. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} W. Roberts of Leeds for the spraying of asbestos fibre on the body panels as a precaution against drumming. We communicated with Messrs. Roberts and obtained from them details of their process and we circulated these details to the principal Coachbuilders here. One of them - Hooper & Co - already knew of the process and had in fact applied it to one car, but so far they have not been able to determine what effect has been achieved. We have also arranged for Messrs. Roberts to give a demonstration in London to representatives of the principal Coachbuilders, and we have suggested to EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} that the further four-door Saloon body to be built by Park Ward & Co. for the experimental Bentley chassis should have the panels sprayed, and we are now trying to fix up for this to be carried out by Roberts themselves with the demonstration plant they are sending to London.
