X.8378 B from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to BH. Copy to EFU. X.8378 DALO/CB18-1-21. RE "GOSHAWK" BRAKE GEAR. We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 724 showing the Goshawk brake gear arrangement modified in accordance with your recent instructions. We find when we come to put the hand brake down and keep the length of the levers on the differential shafts about 3" in length, and also to use the proposed new differential gear with the lever driving the differential spider directly, that we cannot get the operating lever in line with the hand lever, but it has to be offset somewhat as shown, though the offset need not be quite so much, but in order to keep the two brakes symmetrical on either side of the axis, we have shown it as drawn. Also, in the case of the footbrake, we find there is a very definite position for the adjustment to clear the various obstructions on the gear box, and that position we have shown on this arrangement, and illustrate it on the section at A.A. We have got full size drawings of the differentials, the adjustment, and the pedals very nearly ready, and shall be sending them on in the course of a day or two.
