To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Nor. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary} 840 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/MJ.16.3.34. 20/25 HP. 10,000 MILES TEST. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}5/E.13.3.34. The specification of E1-G4. will be the same as given in E/114./HP.23.2.34. The one addition to that list is that we are using the Bentley type starter motor which is an improvement over the standard 20/25. As regards F.{Mr Friese} Series it is probable that this material will have to be ordered before the 10,000 miles test on E1-G4. is completed. We feel rather concerned that the 10,000 miles test cars are losing their original purpose. We look upon the object of a 10,000 miles test is to fit on to the car parts which have proved themselves to be satisfactory after experimental test and are considered suitable for production. The 10,000 miles test is to confirm the experimental test. The 10,000 miles test in itself is nothing like sufficient to prove out any new unit. We think even as a confirmation test it is time we considered nothing less than 15,000 miles. After we have fitted the 20/25 with the controllable dampers and the new carburetter the chief points we are interested in are the modified clutch, as the present clutch gives too much trouble in Service, and voltage controlled dynamo. The voltage controlled dynamo on the 20/25 is an entirely new dynamo and we should not accept that a test of 10,000 miles on one of these dynamos is anything like sufficient. We are producing three or four of these machines and intend to fit one to Nor's new 25 HP. and we should also like to fit one to the 25 HP. car which C. is using. We also expect shortly to fit to both of these cars the new type carburetter so that we can get some experience with it when used under average conditions. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
