COPY Franklin Co's Report. April 28, 1930. Cadillac V-16 - The Cadillac V-16 has been given its first Inspection by Cadillac Service. It has also had a new change of motor oil - 10 quarts. The valves had become noisy at times. They have reset all tappets. The brakes caused car to turn in or out at times when applied. Car also had a tendency to wander. Steering also had some wheel fight. Speedometer reading 485. Oil Reservoir in Cadillac 16 - For Engineering Department Information the oil reservoir in Cadillac 16 carries 10 quarts of oil. Cadillac Gasoline Mileage on 1 Hour Trip - 46.7 miles. Gasoline used 7 gallons, 1 pint (careful check = 6.56 M.P.G.) Notes: Headlamps and front fenders shake and vibrate on good road - Steering wheel jerks on good road - Brakes risky at 70 M.P.H. quick stop - Motor pings on acceleration - Strong Sunoco Gas - Choke keeps working out. Oil and Gasoline Consumption of Cadillac 16 cylinder Motor with Temperature of oil Secured in Making Test. Route - Auburn and return - 46 miles - 1 hour Speed 70 or better every opportunity Oil used .27/pt = 1246 M.P.G. Gas used 7 gallons = 6.57 M.P.G. Maximum oil temperature 215° - This temperature was gotten when it was 75-80 M.P.H. Driving at 60 M.P.H. would probably run 195-200°. Thermometer fitted in plug of drain hole. ----------------- DM{D.
