Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KW. 2nd February, 1935. Captain Wilks, The Rover Motor Company, New Meteor Works, Coventry. Dear Capt. Wilks, Thank you for your endeavour to overcome the over-run rattles on my car. I think these are certainly about 20% better but even now I feel that they are the one feature which spoils completely an otherwise very delightful little car. We have of course been through this problem ourselves and found out two or three years ago that we could not deal with the job sufficiently well with the spring driven clutch centre and have had to adopt the friction damper on the propellor shaft. However, we are dealing with 6-cylinder cars and this is a 4, hence the problems may not be identical. The demonstration car which I tried was of course almost completely free from over-run rattles, therefore I presume that all cars are not as bad as mine. I should be glad to know what further you can do. The axle on the car is of course noisy, but I understand you have had very serious production difficulties and cannot do better than this for the time being. The steering is much improved. Now that the brakes have settled down there appears to be much less front braking than I should like. Is it possible to alter this ? | ||
