SpectreCodename for Phantom III ignition.

--------

The SpectreCodename for Phantom III battery ignition has been arranged with two make and break pivotted contact levers of the general type that we are at present using in company with a six lobed cam for giving the requisite number of sparks and the high tension moulding is taken from the 12 cylinder Delco Remy battery ignition set we recently had at these works in connection with aero engine development.

A sufficient number of these H.T. mouldings should therefore be ordered from Delco Remy for the first batch of SpectreCodename for Phantom III engines. Later on we shall develop a moulding of our own with a longer surface leakage path, but until we know more about the requirements of this ignition we propose to use the Delco Remy moulding.

The design has also been arranged on the assumption that we can get away with a single coil, that is, two coils per engine, arranged with a suitable external resistance in the primary circuit, but we must be prepared if necessary to accept that there will be four coils per engine.

A further point in connection with this battery ignition design is that provision has been made so that the make and break mechanism can be exchanged as a unit for a mechanism such as the Delco Remy spring blade breaker mentioned above, and we wish to have some sets of this type of ignition available for trial alternatively with the pivotted lever type, and we understand from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. that it will be possible to obtain them from the Delco Remy Co.
