We have not carried out many tests with the consumption of the "Condor" because we have not yet got the proper carburetters and inductions pipes. On the tests we have carried out so far, the best we have obtained is .5 lbs. per HP. hour. We have just received the first castings for the float chamber for the new carburetter so that in a short while we ought to have the engine fitted up complete with its own carburetters and latest induction pipes. We have no doubt in our own minds that we shall be able to get the consumption of .45 or .46 lbs per HP. hour. Since our recent tests on high compression shows that the temperatures of the valves and the pistons are less with high compression, we are keen on running with as high compression as possible. The only thing that limits us are sparking plugs. Lately we have carried out a number of tests on sparking plugs in conjunction with Lodge Sparking Plug Co., We have got some plugs which are very good for absence of pre-ignition and very good for withstanding oil. The trouble we have had with them is that they have not a very long life. One part which has failed has been the nickel point which is Contd. | ||
