REPORT ON CHASSIS 93-NK AFTER 7,960 MILES.

ENGINE.
Engine power good. Compressions even. Valves and fitting to E.72217.B. These are O.K. Modified cast iron choke valve in down take pipe to Lec.2035 - this has worked satisfactorily since taking down and straightening spindle. We still think that this should be a more robust job, as previously reported. Carburetter butterfly throttle E.73166/ 7/8 - controls to Scheme 625. These are working satisfactorily. Occasional explosions on retard, but we do not consider these excessive. Front engine suspension tube to Lec.2027 - this is quite O.K. Modified throttle governor spring to scheme 632, using spring E.5295 - this has operated satisfactorily. Spring Drive Sch.628 - O.K. Magneto and dynamo drives magneto coupling to Lec.1990 - O.K. Modified dynamo drive to Lec.2019 and 2028 - O.K. Water pump white metal packing washer E.70361 - no trouble, working quite satisfactorily. Condenser earth connection to D.scheme 254 - battery points are badly pitted again. Should not consider this satisfactory. Could Mr. Clark give us any help with this job? Distributor. Some grey fibre rubbing block L.2. - this seems to be wearing satisfactorily. Cover E.73134 for oil filter quite O.K. Oil relief valve. We are running with a temporary spring to give more oil to rocker shaft. We have had no further trouble with squeaks. Leak of oil from oil relay drive has slightly increased. Examination of pistons shews excess of oil, but I do not believe there is quite so much as previously. We are not having trouble with plugs getting oiled up. No.5. plug was wet, but firing. The other plugs were dry. There is a fair amount of carbon deposit on the piston heads. Engine generally kept clean. Tappet settings have kept even. No. 1 still noisy at bottom of push rod (at guide). Engine louvres. May we draw your attention to louvres on O.S. of engine. When taking the bottom half of the engine down, we found that the louvres on this side prevented this, where the lug juts out for the oil gauge. The louvres had to be bent back to allow this to pass. Slight modification required only. Heat under scuttle and floorboards seems to me to be O.K., but floorboards should be a good fit as considerable amount of heat comes through cracks, or badly fitting boards. Exhaust boxes - these are O.K.
