Front axle.

Pivots and bearings O.K. Brake operating shafts with larger bearings - no wear is noticeable. Front springs well lubricated, and all leaves O.K. Rear anchorage brackets of springs O.K. Full rods operating front brakes - these should have more adjustment for ball ends. We have got slack in these, which cannot be taken up.

Undershield.

This should be carried back further to take care of front of gear box, as there is quite a lot of grit and sand flung on to this portion.

Exhaust silencers.

The lagging on these silencers is in the same condition as in my last report. We consider that stronger strapping should be used at the front end in each case, to prevent stones tearing it backwards. Silencer brackets O.K. Sliding joints O.K.

Engine coupling.

This coupling after 2,520 miles shews no sign of wear. This is the coupling that Butler brought over.

Pedals.

To scheme L.O.P. F.72359. Bearings are in good condition.

Rear axle.

This is O.K. Rear brake operating shafts - the leather covers on these shafts are useless. They are torn off immediately. We would suggest a cover made of steel, being telescopic in action, which could be bolted firmly at either end. The leather cover will not stand the quantity of stones it comes into contact with.

Clutch.

I have not been able to find out the cause of the clutch slipping on one occasion. I have tried hard on the road to make the clutch slip, but I cannot. The clutch is certainly very sensitive to slipping if one happens to put a little too much load on pedal with foot, otherwise I consider that the clutch is quite O.K. We have not had any jaggers for some considerable time. Clutch picking up very smoothly. Clutch is rather sluggish in stopping when hot although we have reset the clutch stop. It is quite all right when cold.
