PHANTOM 111 - CRANKCASE AND CRANKSHAFT FOR NEXT 15,000 MILES TEST CAR.

Since issuing the detail of the modified Phantom 111 crankcase E.89320 it has been decided to make the following alterations :-

(1). Increase area of intermediate journal bearings, and use crankshaft as shown on design E.CD.284.

(2). Modify the clutch as per design at present being made by 'G' Design Section, this alters the diameter of the starter ring, and therefore the centre of the starter motor.

Will you please alter the detail drawing of the crankcase E.89320 to suit the above items as soon as possible, so as not to delay the production of this part for the experiment.

As regards item (1) all the information for this is given on E.CD.284 which was issued earlier as a separate experiment by memo Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/G.11.12.37.

Item (2) - the centre distance for the starter motor relative to crankshaft centre is increased from 8.625" to 8.6875", the distance down for the starter motor from centre of crankshaft to remain as now viz. .600".

BY/RD. will attend to the alterations necessary to the starter motor.
