SECRET. X.8770 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from CJ. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from CJ To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from CJ. re EAC. CJ7/E9/3/25 The following is extract from a letter I have received from R.{Sir Henry Royce} dated 6th March and extract from my reply: R.{Sir Henry Royce} to CJ: 'Regarding the firing in the silencer this was what you may 'call a clerical error, a spring closes the throttle but owing 'to an error in adjustment this could not act because the 'governor cam always held the throttle slightly open. (no help 'is needed from the driver). Here again we are making 'the feature easier to adjust, the trouble really was due to 'changing a joint packing to a much thinner type.' RS{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} CJ to R: 'I was riding inside the car (EAC), which is a closed car, and 'I did not hear the firing in the silencer but Briggs tells 'me that this fault is by no means cured and that the number 'of noises is greater than that experienced on the ordinary '40/50.'
