PROPELLER SHAFTS.

HL/ML.2.33.

We are sending you a table of the lengths of the propeller shafts between universals on our various chassis, together with an estimate of the safe maximum speed, assuming 4000 R.P.M. for the 20/25.

This figure was obtained on 19.0.IV. when fitted with a J.I. unit.

Length.
Safe Speed RPM.

20/25. 3" Dia. Peregrine long type. 54.875 4000
3" Dia. Peregrine short type. 46.750 5750
3" Dia. Peregrine short type. 41.250 7000
2¾" Dia. Peregrine short type. 41.250 5200
3" Dia. J.III. 54.875 4000
3" Dia. Newport. 52.875 4300
3" Dia. Peregrine to run 5000 RPM. 49.000 5000

We should not, therefore, expect to be able to run a Peregrine chassis up to 5000 RPM. with a shaft longer than 49", and would rather that it were shorter.
